Guess who's puppy is now world famous:)   Pets get a second chance during Camarillo adoption event Poodle owner Jessica Zarate-Martinez was looking to add another member to her family as she browsed through huskies, Chihuahuas and other dogs brought by numerous rescue groups to an animal adoption event hosted by the Camarillo Petco on Saturday. “I’d rather adopt a dog than buy one because otherwise, they get put to sleep,” said Zarate-Martinez, of Oxnard. “Plus, it costs a lot of money to pay a breeder. Why not rescue one and save a life?” Zarate-Martinez and her children were among a crowd of potential adopters for dogs, cats and bunnies looking for a loving home. “Petco’s adoption mission is to reduce the number of homeless pets being euthanized and to increase the number of adoptable pets being placed into forever homes,” said Susan Hartzler, adoption captain at the Camarillo Petco. Saturday’s event, sponsored by the Best Friends Animal Society, the Ventura County animal shelter and the Camarillo Petco, showcased more than 10 rescue groups in the Petco parking lot, where a deejay played live music and food trucks sold snacks. Ventura County Animal Services brought 11 dogs, two cats and four rabbits. “We left the horse at home,” said Ramona Lapp, of Moorpark, a volunteer with the rescue organization known for taking in stray, injured and abandoned animals. “We want to save their lives and enrich their lives,” added volunteer Brooke Novak, of Camarillo. “It’s about the animals, but it’s also about the owners. You have to find the right match.” California GSP Rescue, a breed-specific rescue specializing in German shorthaired pointers, brought two dogs, 9-year-old Roxy and 8-year-old Cody. “We have a match-making service to find the best dog that will fit in your home . We have some that are cat-friendly,” said Teri Hembree, of Port Hueneme, a volunteer with the nonprofit organization. “These dogs have been loved by a family but were dumped at a shelter because they got old,” Hembree said. “We bring them in and give them a chance.” Cabodogz, a rescue group dedicated to helping homeless dogs of Los Cabos find homes in the Greater Los Angeles area, brought seven canines, including a husky, pit lab puppies and a Maltese poodle. “There are millions of unwanted pets,” said Mindy Benezra, of Ventura, founder of Cabodogz. “In this county alone, millions of unwanted pets are put down every year. And there’s nothing wrong with these dogs. The only thing wrong is that nobody cares.” Volunteer Michael Stern, of Valley Village, said, “Eventually, we’d like to see every shelter be a no-kill shelter.” He’s with the Best Friends Animal Society, which works with animal rescue groups, city shelters and animal lovers to make this vision a reality. “The reality is, when you adopt a pet, you are saving a life,” Stern said. © 2013 Ventura County Star. Rescue Dogs

Rescue Dogs are the new black! And celebrity radio host Warren Eckstein has seven
year old brother and sister German Shepherds, Raja and Rani, that are looking for
a forever home. They had belonged to a woman who passed away from brain cancer at
only 50 years-old. Her Mom, an 87 year-old holocaust survivor from Russia had been
caring for the dogs until her son-in-law kicked her out of the home and threatened
