OFFICIAL BALLOT
Welcome to the first annual Alpha Dog Public Relation’s Top 10 Best & Worst Dressed Dogs in America! With this ballot, you can help decide which dogs were the best dressed of all the pooches across the nation in 2008, while also identifying those pups that simply were fashion disasters!
In selecting a dog’s Fashion Rating, please consider style, originality of dress, and the practical nature of the clothes worn, as well as – just like any beauty contest – the pooch’s character and community service. American Humane dictates that canine clothes should be appropriate for the situation and not restrict the animal’s movement. The guidelines from the organization that ensures “no animals were harmed” on television and movie sets also states that costuming and/or props must not restrict the animal’s breathing or cause overheating with consideration given on how easily it can be removed in case of an emergency. Colors, dyes, makeup or adhesives used on animals should also be toxin free.
With that in mind, reflect on this year’s entries and judge from 1 to 10, with a “1” being best dressed of 2008 and a “10” being the worst. After you have filled out the form, please fax it back to Alpha Dog Public Relations at 818-998-8807 or email it to info@alphadogpr.com. Entrees must be received by Friday, November 14, 2008.
Willow, Labrador Retriever
FASHION RATING
When the sirens howl, call in the Search and Rescue Dogs! At 14, Willow the Golden Lab, is one of the last living Search and Rescue dogs who worked to save lives at the World Trade Center in 2001. At her age, Willow doesn’t work missions anymore, but she still helps out teaching new dogs the skills to become future heroes. Here, she’s wearing a jacket from ChillyBuddy, which keeps her cool in warm temperatures. The jacket helps her stay active for longer periods of time. Shortly after hitting the market, Chillybuddy’s unique heat reflecting outer layer combined with its breathable cooling component caught the attention of the nation’s elite canine forces. FEMA certified Search and Rescue Task Force members, as well as military handlers of bomb-sniffing dogs in Iraq, noted the quick cooling effects of the jackets and the ease with which they could be put on and removed. After testing the vests, most Task Force handlers adopted them as standard equipment for their dogs.

Tonka, Jack Russell Terrier
FASHION RATING
Forget about The Girls Next Door; this dog is Hugh Hefner’s #1 girlfriend at the Playboy Mansion (just kidding). She’s pictured here at the Santa Barbara Big Dog Parade posing, Cleopatra-style, in her favorite costume, a fashionable wig from Total Diva Pets. Tonka is no pup-cake. Besides modeling, the 4-year old beauty also enjoys chasing squirrels at her avocado ranch and riding Harley’s around town. She’s an expert motorcycle rider and a regular at the Sportsman Lounge where she works as a professional hostess (that’s no joke).

Chloe, Chihuahua
FASHION RATING
With her starring role as Chloe the Chihuahua in Disney’s new movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua, this total doggie hottie is taking the country by storm. Her stylings on the big screen are matched by a big heart off-screen, inspiring people everywhere to give orphaned Chihuahuas good homes. The day after a story, covering Chloe and the movie, ran on KTLA Morning News, a huge line formed in front of the Los Angeles North Central Dog Shelter. Motivated by Chloe’s charm and style, people came from all over the city to become proud Chihuahua owners. Now, that’s a big-screen moment.

Bella Starlet, Mix
FASHION RATING
One of the stars of CBS’ The Greatest American Dog, is known for having the largest wardrobe of any dog on the planet. What you may not know about her is that she donates a part of her earnings to dog-related charities. Owner Beth Joy takes dressing up her mutt to new heights, even putting Bella Starlet to bed in pajamas. Bella laps up attention when she wears her Statue of Liberty costume and makes tails wag in her Marilyn Monroe dress. Here, she is pictured wearing a pink tutu and a designer gray sweater. The big question is can Bella do a pirouette in this getup?

Napoleon, Yorkie Poo
FASHION RATING
A handsome, debonair dog, Napoleon sports some of the finest tailoring on this side of the Atlantic, created by Leticia Olaque and photographed by pro dog-shutterbug Jack Kenner. Napoleon looks completely comfortable in this outfit and ready to battle any fashion “faux-paw.” But, we ask, should dogs wear hats? We’ll leave that one for the judges to decide.

Carson, Long Haired Chihuahua
FASHION RATING
This classy pooch is wearing the Harris sweater from Wool And Kashmir’s 2008 Fall/Winter Collection. The hand knit eco-friendly design has Carson feeling like the leader of the pack in his blue angora and wool pullover while the other dogs are sporting their simple fur coats. He cares about the planet so he’s very green conscious, making sure all his toys are also environmentally friendly. The blue-violet variegated soy and wool yarn makes Carson’s Chocolate brown eyes really stand out and being super preppy, the polo style ribbed collar suits him just fine.

Preston Casanova, Pomeranian
FASHION RATING
With Preston from CBS’ The Greatest American Dog, it’s puppy love all the way. That’s because Preston is one of those rare beings that everybody adores. Preston gives love too. He (and his Momma) is a national spokes dog for In Defense of Dogs Pet Guardian Program. In this photograph by Pam Marks at Pawprince Studios, you can see the distinctive Mohawk that Preston wears, showing off his spunky spirit in different colors. The Mohawk is created by a special non-toxic gel, “lil PUNKnHEAD Fur Frosting,” designed by his owner Laura Nativo. The seaweed based, eco-friendly food-grade temporary-coloring spiking gel will be launching commercially in December of 2008 with a percentage of proceeds going to charity.

Violet, Yorkshire Terrier
FASHION RATING
Wearing Oscar Newman’s Bellissima Faux Fur Coat, this delightful fashionista loves to strike a pose. Violet feels ultra modern in her outfit with the pink faux fur trim that’s hand-embellished with shimmery silver metallic thread and pale pink embroidery, sparkling with Swarovski crystals and pearls. As a true Super Model, Violet travels the world to promote the Oscar Newman line, parading down the cat walk and signing pawtographs in the numerous doggie fashion magazines where she’s appeared. Only one problem, though: keeping her petite figure on the road!
Callie, Maltese
FASHION RATING
Designer dog clothes can be found almost anywhere these days but finding the perfect pet to show them off is not that easy. Doggie Design, Inc. lucked out when cute and cuddly Callie came into the picture. This Maltese keeps the gravy train running by modeling all the exclusive designs by Michele like this lavender dress with the matching head adornment. 3-year-old, 7 pound Callie is a natural Couture Pooch! With patience to burn, this pup is ready for her close-up.
Tinkerbell, Chihuahua
FASHION RATING
What would a Best & Worst Dressed list be without Paris Hilton and her adorable pup? Paris’s cute little Chihuahua Tinkerbell, is certainly a stylish dog. Posing for the camera in her owners arms, Tinkerbell is anything but shy. She’s used to the spotlight and knows not to flea. After all, her mom is constantly hounded with questions whenever they go out. Paris often dresses Tinkerbell in a matching outfit, so when they strut down the red carpet together, they’re a fashion dynamic duo. Often spotted in smart wraps of fun colors, Tinkerbell is on the forefront of doggie fashion, if only because her owner is right there with her.
